Piscina Barcelona and Construmat highlight the value of outdoor areas in hotels

The Fira de Barcelona trade fairs, Piscina Barcelona and Construmat, in collaboration with the Spanish Association of Landscapers, are organizing a professional day in Madrid on October 16th to address the growing importance of outdoor spaces and wellness areas in the hotel sector. National and international experts will reveal new trends in their design, based on sustainability and integration into their surroundings.

Outdoor and wellness areas are gaining importance in hotel facilities and can make a competitive difference, especially if designed under criteria of sustainability and integration with the local environment and culture. The event, titled “Re-evolving Hotel Design from Outdoor and Wellness,” will be held next Wednesday, October 16th, at the Roca Gallery in Madrid, exploring the latest innovations and new approaches to this key element in hotels and other architectural facilities.

Professionals from various countries will gather to exchange ideas on how to integrate these areas into hotel design, creating deeper connections with the local ecosystem. Among the most prominent participants are influential figures such as Jorge Arditti, president of the Mexico and Latam Region of the Arditti + RDT Architects studio, as well as renowned designers, landscapers, and architects with experience in hotel projects in destinations such as Mexico, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, Europe, and the Middle East.

Among them are Andrea Trujillo, project director at GVA Arquitectos; Kalinka Mikel, architect at Kalinka Mikel; Aime Rivero, director of Design & Construction at RTRO. Experts from the Caribbean, such as Liza Ortega, architect at Ortega Arquitectos; Richard Wiese, president of Turquesa Mobiliario y Diseño, and Sergio Ezlo, CEO of Ezlo Architects, will also participate, discussing luxury hotel design in tourist destinations.

From Miami, Ana Ramírez, co-founder of Ancestral Handmade Hotels; from Spain, Lubna Alayeli, architect at LAS Interiores, and Diego Gronda, founder of GRONDA, will share their experience in high-level projects for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Hyatt Hotels, or Mandarin Oriental, among other establishments and hotel chains. The expert in the Contract channel, David Cámara, director of UNEX Asociación Empresarial del Habitat and its Internationalization, will also participate.

The day, which is part of the Business Meetings program organized by Piscina Barcelona and Construmat, aims to create a space for knowledge exchange and the promotion of business opportunities. These periodic meetings aim to foster dialogue around innovation in the design and construction sector, highlighting the role of wellness and sustainability as pillars of the future of hotel design.

Piscina Barcelona: Pool, Wellness, and Outdoor
Organized by Fira de Barcelona in collaboration with the Spanish industry association ASOFAP, Piscina Barcelona will be held from November 17th to 20th, 2025, at the Gran Via venue, with the expectation of surpassing the figures of 2023, when a total of 367 exhibitors from 30 countries participated, achieving a record of internationality with 68% foreign firms.

The fair will showcase the entire value chain of the pool product for residential and public use, as well as installations, equipment, and accessories related to outdoor, wellness, spa, and fitness. It will include various knowledge activities and a large exhibition space that will bring together the ‘outdoor’ sector offer and a fully functioning wellness center.

    Construmat, the Construction trade fair
Construmat is the leading construction sector fair in Spain and a reference in southern Europe and the Mediterranean. In its next edition, which will take place from May 20th to 22nd, 2025, at the Gran Via venue of Fira de Barcelona, the event will showcase the latest materials, tools, techniques, and services for more sustainable and efficient construction.

It will also strengthen its knowledge aspect by enhancing the internationality of its Sustainable Building Congress, which will address social housing construction, the impact of AI in the sector, or the importance of materials and the design of healthy spaces as key themes.
